Ukraine and our film - A Year Later

A year ago at this time, we were going through one of the toughest transitions in the project.  Our hard work had finally hit a threshold, and things were falling apart.  It took some time to pick up the pieces and keep on moving.  And we did.  And at every turn in the project, there have been moments where it didnt seem possible to continue.  Something always came up that seemed absolutely immobile or the task too difficult, too expensive, the learning curve too high.  But at every turn, the desire to see it happen was greater, stronger, than any force that laughed at us.  And slowly, that laughter has withered away, and our resistant enemy is finally coming around to the fact that we will succeed, and you are either on board or not.  And those forces succumb and begin to work for us instead of against us.

Although the struggle is not as dire as the events on Maidan last year, there was indeed a kinship.  The struggle to improve, the battle to claim what you know should be yours is never easy.  Our very existence is a battle against the laws of physics.  If it were up to the way the universe works, we wouldnt be here.  But the will to survive, the will to continue, and the persistence of that will power, when combined with chance, is the engine that keeps us going.  As I have said before, this is not intended to be a political film, but while the people of Ukraine are still fighting for their future, so are we, still hanging in there, whether we get an inch or a mile in a day, we will take it as progress.
